WHAT A LINE PRODUCER DOES

Six workstreams, one accountable seat.

A line producer is the person who makes a production actually happen — turning the director's vision, the producer's budget, and the schedule constraints into an executable plan and running it on the ground. Six workstreams sit inside one accountable seat.

/ 01

Production budget + line-item breakdown

Full production budget built from the script and shot list — above-the-line, below-the-line, contingency, and post-production allocations. Line-item transparency so the producer knows exactly where every riyal goes, and where the risk sits.

  • Above-the-line + below-the-line breakdown
  • Department-by-department allocation
  • Contingency + insurance provisioning
  • Post-production budget integration
/ 02

Production schedule + shot planning

Full production schedule from prep through shoot to wrap — location days, unit moves, cast availability, crew rotation, gear delivery, and safety-buffer planning. Adjusted against production reality on a daily basis, not the theoretical schedule that survives contact with day one.

  • Prep + shoot + wrap schedule
  • Location-day + unit-move planning
  • Cast + crew availability integration
  • Daily-adjustment against reality
/ 03

Crew booking + department heads

Full crew hiring from department heads to production assistants — DP, gaffer, sound recordist, script supervisor, grip, art department, wardrobe, hair-makeup, safety, and support. Vetted against the specific shoot's needs; not a generic rolodex send.

  • Department-head hiring
  • Full crew build (60+ line items)
  • Vetted against shoot-specific needs
  • Rate negotiation + contract execution
/ 04

Contracts + insurance + permits

Contract execution across crew, cast, locations, vendors, and post-production. Production insurance (equipment, general liability, crew, E&O for delivery). Location permits and any government-liaison paperwork. All the paperwork that keeps a production legally and operationally shielded.

  • Crew + cast + vendor contracts
  • Production insurance placement
  • Location + government permits
  • E&O + delivery paperwork
/ 05

Vendor coordination + equipment

Equipment rental coordination (cameras, lenses, lighting, grip, sound, specialised rigs), transport (unit trucks, cast cars, crew transport), catering, lodging, and any specialty vendors (VFX supervisor, aerial team, underwater unit). One integrated vendor management, not scattered calls.

  • Camera + lighting + grip rental
  • Transport + lodging + catering
  • Specialty-vendor integration
  • Vendor-side invoice reconciliation
/ 06

On-set production management

On-set production manager for every shoot day — running call sheets, managing meal/rest breaks, tracking against schedule, resolving on-set issues, and reporting daily production to your producer and production company. The seat that makes the director's day flow.

  • Call sheet + shooting-day management
  • On-set issue resolution
  • Daily production reporting
  • Wrap + department-close coordination
WHY DARB

Why route line producing through Darb.

Three reasons production companies and studios brief Darb for line producer services on Saudi shoots — instead of hiring a freelance line producer with a limited crew network.

/ 01

Saudi-market crew network — 14 years deep

A line producer is only as strong as the crew network behind them. Our line producer has 14 years of active production in the Saudi market — every department head, every specialty crew member, every reliable vendor. When day-one call sheets need filling, we don't scramble.

/ 02

Production company behind the line producer

Freelance line producers work alone. Ours sits inside a full production company — which means when a shoot needs additional support (studio, post-production, aerial, marine unit, specific equipment), the resource is one email away. Not another vendor-search cycle mid-shoot.

/ 03

Bilingual reporting to production heads

International producers and studios need production reporting in English; Saudi crew and vendors need briefing in Arabic. Our line producer moves between both languages fluently — meaning nothing gets lost in translation between the production office and the shoot floor.

WHO HIRES A LINE PRODUCER

Productions that need a Saudi-market line producer.

Whichever production type — the line producer role is the same, only the schedule scale and the department count change per engagement.

Feature films + episodic television

Feature films and episodic TV productions shooting in Saudi — Saudi or foreign-produced. Full-scope line producing across prep, shoot, and wrap. Coordination with Ministry of Culture and GCAM production frameworks.

Multi-day TVC productions

High-value TVC productions where the shoot spans multiple days, locations, and specialty units (aerial, underwater, motion-control). Line producing keeps the budget and schedule stable across the complexity.

Long-form documentary productions

Documentary productions shooting over weeks or months — sector documentaries, national-programme films, brand-heritage long-form. Line producing handles the rolling logistics that ad-hoc production management always underestimates.

International productions with Saudi shoots

International feature, TVC, and documentary productions with a Saudi shoot window. Line producer manages the Saudi-side production; works upstream to the production's overall producer or coordinator. Complements our film-fixer service for foreign crews.

Corporate productions at scale

Enterprise productions where the shoot is beyond standard corporate-video scope — multi-city, multi-week, or multi-department. Line producing scales the production management to the shoot, keeping enterprise procurement and internal reporting satisfied.

Live-event and broadcast productions

Line producer role adapted for live-event and broadcast productions — running the production plan for multi-camera live shoots, event-broadcast rigs, and hybrid physical/virtual productions.

HOW IT WORKS

From script to wrap.

Line producing runs on a disciplined pre-production spine. Here's what happens from the moment you engage us to the moment the wrap party ends.

/ 01

Engagement + script breakdown

Line producer engages the production at script-lock stage. Full script breakdown by department — cast pages, location pages, unit-move requirements, specialty-department needs. Output: a preliminary budget and schedule for producer review.

/ 02

Budget lock + schedule lock

Budget refined against the producer's constraints; schedule refined against cast availability and location windows. Both locked and signed before crew hiring begins. This is where a good line producer earns their seat — bad budget + bad schedule kill productions later.

/ 03

Crew hiring + contracts

Department heads hired against the specific shoot's needs; full crew built beneath them. Contracts executed. Cast contracts finalised. Insurance placed. Location permits filed. All done inside the pre-production window, not scrambled in week one.

/ 04

Prep + tech scouts

Tech scouts with DP, gaffer, and department heads at every location. Equipment orders placed. Transport and lodging booked. Catering scoped. Call sheet template built. Everything the shoot day needs, ready before it lands.

/ 05

Shoot days

On-set production manager runs every shoot day. Call sheets distributed, department reports collected, budget-vs-actual tracked daily, on-set issues resolved without escalation to the producer. Daily production report sent to the production office.

/ 06

Wrap + delivery

Wrap all crew and vendors. Equipment returned. Locations cleared. Cast wrap paperwork. Full budget reconciliation delivered — actuals against the locked budget, with variance analysis. Delivery paperwork completed for post-production handover.

BEFORE YOU BRIEF

Line producer questions answered.

What's the difference between a line producer and a fixer?

A film fixer handles ground services for foreign crews — permits, locations, local crew, transport, catering, on-set fixing. A line producer is a production role — runs the budget, schedule, contracts, crew, and on-set production management. Foreign productions often need both; Saudi productions typically need only the line producer.

At what production scale does hiring a line producer make sense?

Any shoot beyond a standard 1-2 day corporate video benefits from a line producer. Features, TVCs above 3 shoot days, long-form documentaries, multi-city productions, and enterprise productions with 20+ crew members are the typical thresholds. Below that scale, a producer + a strong production coordinator usually covers it.

How is line producer engagement priced?

Two common structures. Percentage-of-budget (typical range 4-8% of total production budget) — aligns line producer's incentive with cost control. Weekly rate — for productions where the budget is dynamic or the shoot window is long. We recommend the structure at the initial engagement based on your production shape.

Do you provide the line producer only, or the crew too?

Both are available. Line-producer-only means we provide the line producer and their production coordinator; you hire crew directly (through the line producer's recommendations). Line-producer-plus-crew means the crew are booked through our production company. Second option gives one contract, one insurance line, one accountable seat — usually simpler for out-of-country producers.

Can you handle line producing for international productions with a Saudi shoot window?

Yes — that's a common engagement. International producer stays in charge of the overall production; our line producer runs the Saudi-shoot window inside their production framework. Bilingual reporting, coordinated with the production's overall production manager, and integrated with our film-fixer service if the foreign crew also needs ground services.

Do you have experience with feature-film production frameworks?

Yes. Line producing on features requires knowledge of the Ministry of Culture and GCAM production frameworks, guild rate cards, and feature-specific insurance requirements. This is different from TVC or corporate line producing — we handle both, but flag feature work as its own engagement type at brief.

What kind of production insurance do you place?

Equipment insurance (rental + owned kit), general liability, crew workers-compensation, cast insurance for larger productions, and E&O (errors and omissions) for delivery. Insurance placement is part of the line producer's scope; carriers negotiated at the pre-production stage.

Can you handle post-production line producing too?

Yes, but it's a distinct scope. Post-production line producing (managing the post budget, edit schedule, delivery timeline, and vendor coordination for finishing) is available as an extension. Often useful on productions that shoot in Saudi and finish elsewhere, or vice versa — one accountable seat across both.
